CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In Thursday afternoon's home doubleheader against Mid-South Conference foe #9 the University of the Cumberlands, the Campbellsville Tigers struggled to slow down the Patriots' offense, dropping game one 10-3 and game two 14-1 in a run-rule finish.
- Tate Wischnack powered the Tigers across both games, highlighted by his 10th home run of the season in the latter, along with a double. Wischnack accounted for all four Campbellsville RBIs in the doubleheader.
- Brady Henke stayed productive in game one, going 2-for-4 with an RBI to help set the tone offensively.
- Luke O'Brien added extra-base production with a double in the opener from behind the plate.
- Kleysen Gabruck contributed by reaching base and scoring a run in game two, one of the few offensive sparks.
- Joaquin Hernandez added a hit over the two games, helping keep the offense moving in limited opportunities.
- The Tigers will continue their series against Cumberlands on Friday, April 24, with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET, as the program also celebrates Senior Day.
GAME ONE: Cumberlands 10, Campbellsville 3
Cumberlands struck quickly at the top of the first inning, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after a bases-loaded sequence and a three-run home run that gave the Patriots early control of the game.
The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the second.
Tate Wischnack delivered an RBI double, and
Joaquin Hernandez added a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, cutting the deficit to 5-2 and shifting momentum back toward Campbellsville.
Both teams traded scoreless innings through the third and fourth as pitching settled in, and defenses tightened.
Cumberlands extended the lead in the fifth after a single drove in another run, pushing the margin to 6-2.
Campbellsville responded in the bottom half when
Luke O'Brien tripled, and
Brady Henke brought him home with an RBI single, trimming the score to 6-3.
The Patriots broke the game open late in the seventh, taking advantage of walks, steals, and timely contact to add multiple runs and pull away.
Campbellsville was unable to generate a late rally as Cumberlands closed out the game 10-3.
GAME TWO: Cumberlands 14, Campbellsville 1
Campbellsville returns to action looking to regroup after a tough offensive night against a strong Cumberlands pitching and offensive attack.
The Tigers opened the game with a clean first inning from both sides, as Campbellsville's defense held Cumberlands scoreless early.
Cumberlands broke through at the top of the fourth, capitalizing on a double, an RBI groundout, and an error to take a 2-0 lead.
Campbellsville responded immediately in the bottom half when
Tate Wischnack launched a solo home run to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
However, Cumberlands took control in the fifth inning, stringing together multiple hits and RBI opportunities to build a 6-1 lead.
The Patriots continued to add pressure in the sixth, including a two-run home run and additional RBI singles to extend the margin.
In the seventh, Cumberlands put the game away with another offensive burst, scoring multiple runs on hits, walks, and defensive miscues to reach the run-rule threshold and secure the 14-1 win.
