Campbellsville got things started in the top of the first with early pressure.
Brady Henke reached on an error and quickly put himself in scoring position with a stolen base.
Antony Gilbert followed with a base hit, but the early momentum was cut short as the runner was thrown out at home to end the inning.
Freed-Hardeman collected a pair of hits and applied immediate pressure. A single and a stolen base put a runner in scoring position, and another base hit nearly brought him home, but a strong throw from the outfield cut down the runner at the plate to keep the game scoreless.
The Tigers broke through in the second.
Joaquin Hernandez came around to score on a fielder's choice from
Jason Franzel, giving Campbellsville a 1-0 lead.
But the Lions did not stay quiet for long. In the third, chaos unfolded. A mix of hits, a costly error, and a wild pitch allowed Freed-Hardeman to plate two runs, both unearned, to jump ahead 2-1.
The game quickly turned into a back-and-forth battle in the fourth, and Campbellsville delivered a big response. With two outs,
Brady Henke came through in a huge moment, ripping a double into the gap that brought in two runs and flipped the score.
Nick Hagen followed with an RBI single, capping a three-run inning and putting the Tigers back on top, 4-2.
Freed-Hardeman answered right away in the bottom half, capitalizing on wild pitches and timely hitting to tie and briefly retake the lead. An RBI single and another run scoring on a wild pitch kept the pressure on.
Campbellsville refused to back down. In the fifth,
Joaquin Hernandez came up clutch again, driving in a run with a single to push the Tigers ahead 5-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Freed-Hardeman erupted. Defensive miscues opened the door, and the Lions took full advantage. The biggest advantage came on a grand slam to right field. By the time the inning ended, Freed-Hardeman scored six runs and built a commanding 10-5 lead.
Campbellsville chipped away in the seventh, stringing together hits from
Antony Gilbert,
Brady Henke, and
Kyle Liu to bring the score within reach. Then in the eighth, the Tigers mounted an incredible rally. Patience at the plate led to multiple bases loaded walks, a sacrifice fly from
Kleysen Gabruck tied the game, and clutch hits from
Jaxson Grubbs and others pushed Campbellsville in front, 12-11.
With the lead in hand, the Tigers turned to their bullpen.
Reid Turner shut the door in the bottom of the eighth, and in the ninth, he delivered again, retiring the Lions in order and securing a dramatic comeback victory.
