CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The No. 14 Campbellsville University football team enters the 2026 season with national momentum, a veteran core, and a familiar face leading the program.

Alumnus and former All-American quarterback Hunter Brown begins his first season as head coach after serving on the Campbellsville staff in several offensive and recruiting roles. Brown takes over a program that finished 8-3 in 2025, earned an at-large berth in the NAIA Football Championship Series, and advanced to the second round of the national postseason.

Campbellsville finished last season ranked No. 11 in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 Postseason Poll. The Fighting Tigers will begin Brown's tenure at No. 14 in the Netting Professionals-NAIA Coaches' Top 25 preseason poll.

Brown has outlined a vision centered on servant leadership, Christ-centered character, academic success, and sustained championship-level competition. His first priority is developing players who put others first and reflect their faith in how they lead, compete, and live.

The former Campbellsville quarterback has also emphasized discipline, accountability, and excellence away from the field. Brown said the program will pursue consistent championship success while preparing its student-athletes to make an impact beyond football.

"I am committed to leading with a servant-heart, helping our young men grow in character and life, not just in football," Brown said when his hiring was announced. "I'm also eager to work toward consistent championship-level success on the field as we pursue excellence together."

Brown inherits several key contributors from a team that produced 4,929 yards of total offense and averaged 448.1 yards per game last season. Campbellsville scored 432 points while averaging 6.1 yards per rushing attempt and 8.2 yards per passing attempt.

Senior quarterback Jett Engle returns to direct the offense after completing 201 of 325 passes for 2,717 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2025. Engle accounted for 2,725 yards of total offense and helped Campbellsville average 266.7 passing yards per game.

Engle will be surrounded by an experienced group of receivers. Redshirt sophomore Easton Barlow returns after catching 19 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns last season. His 21.9 yards per reception led Campbellsville among players with at least 10 catches.

Senior Ashton Auker also returns after contributing on offense and special teams. Auker caught 35 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 30.4 yards on 14 kickoff returns. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and finished with 683 all-purpose yards.

Senior Troy Oliver, sophomore Jaysean Pritchard, and graduate student Caleb Austin provide additional experience in the receiving corps. Oliver recorded 19 receptions for 211 yards and four touchdowns in 2025, while Pritchard added 154 receiving yards and contributed 242 yards on kickoff returns. Austin caught two touchdown passes.

Campbellsville must replace Tre' Bass, who led the Tigers with 1,270 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns last season. Redshirt senior Archelaus Smith is the most productive returning option in the backfield after rushing for 204 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries. Sophomore Jeremy Smith recorded 97 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts, while redshirt sophomore Elijah Robb is also listed among the team's running backs.

The offensive line features several upperclassmen, including graduate student Quan Evans and seniors Chris Grier and Buster Overstreet. Redshirt junior Kyle Duvall also returns, while Quintez Thomas joins the roster as a transfer from the University of Louisville.

Defensively, Campbellsville returns members of a unit that limited opponents to 112.7 rushing yards per game. The Tigers recorded 75 tackles for loss, 26 sacks, and 16 interceptions while recovering 10 fumbles. Campbellsville allowed 256 points across 11 games.

Senior linebacker Tyler Ballard is a key returner after totaling 37 tackles in eight appearances last season. The linebacker group also includes redshirt senior Zmari Bell, redshirt junior Josh Labelah, redshirt sophomore Zeke Carwile, and redshirt sophomore Gage Engle.

Junior defensive back Jerrod Johnson returns after intercepting two passes and recording 67 interception-return yards in 2025. Johnson returned one interception for a touchdown. Senior defensive backs JT Hawk and Austin Levias add experience to the secondary, while sophomore Jaquon Coulter returns after recording two interceptions and an 80-yard touchdown return last season.

Redshirt senior Ousainue Gai and senior Jacob Smith headline the returning experience along the defensive front. Campbellsville also lists redshirt sophomore Thornley Pierre, redshirt sophomore Johnathan Griffin, and sophomore Dawson Carson among its defensive linemen.

Senior kicker Colin Fratus returns after converting 12 of 13 field-goal attempts and 51 of 52 extra-point attempts in 2025. Fratus was perfect on three attempts from 40 to 49 yards and made a season-long 46-yard field goal.

Campbellsville is one of three Mid-South Conference teams in the preseason Top 25, joining No. 6 Lindsey Wilson and No. 20 Georgetown. The Tigers' schedule includes all three ranked conference teams, along with a season-opening meeting against No. 17 Saint Francis.

The Fighting Tigers will open the season against Saint Francis at noon Saturday, Aug. 29, at Finley Stadium. Campbellsville will play four home games during its nine-game regular-season schedule and conclude the regular season against Georgetown on Nov. 7.
