CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The 2009 Campbellsville University baseball team, which captured an NAIA Opening Round championship and made the program's first trip to the NAIA World Series, has been selected for induction into the Campbellsville University Athletics Hall of Fame.
The team will be honored as part of Campbellsville University's 2026 Hall of Fame class Saturday, Oct. 17, during pregame festivities before Fighting Tiger football hosts Cumberland University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
The 2009 Tigers made program history by winning the NAIA Opening Round and advancing to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. Both accomplishments remain the only ones of their kind in Campbellsville baseball history.
Campbellsville's postseason run also capped a stretch of five consecutive Mid-South Conference tournament championships from 2005 through 2009.
The Tigers produced one of the most accomplished offensive seasons in program history, establishing team records with a .354 batting average, 433 runs, and 396 RBIs. Campbellsville collected 559 hits, including 100 doubles and 64 home runs, while posting a .432 on-base percentage, and a .553 slugging percentage.
Chris Curley set Campbellsville's single-season home run record with 19 and batted .413 with 76 hits, 64 runs, and 69 RBIs. Brian Chase hit .457 and finished with 80 hits, 17 home runs, 60 runs, and 71 RBIs. Curley and Chase remain among the program's single-season leaders in several offensive categories.
Jimmy Voelker added a .380 batting average, 14 doubles, nine home runs, and 52 RBIs. Zach Townsend and Alex Ponich each batted .379, while Nick Bertolucci hit .351. Nine Tigers who recorded at least 100 at-bats finished with a batting average of .298 or better.
Campbellsville complemented its offense with a pitching staff that recorded a 3.91 ERA and 274 strikeouts. Bryan Fuller went 7-1 with a 1.89 ERA, two shutouts, and three saves across 62 innings. Ian Pick finished 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA, while Marc Wilson led the staff with eight victories and 60 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings.
The Tigers swept the Mid-South Conference's top individual awards. Curley was named the conference's Player of the Year, Wilson earned Pitcher of the Year honors, and Beauford Sanders received Coach of the Year recognition. Seven Tigers earned first-team all-conference honors, six received second-team recognition, and 10 were named academic all-conference.
At the NAIA World Series, Campbellsville opened against Lee University, the previous season's national runner-up. Voelker hit a solo home run, and Wilson struck out seven, but the Tigers fell 5-2.
Campbellsville then collected 15 hits against Southern Polytechnic State University in an elimination game. Colin Bryan recorded four singles, and Ponich added a single and two doubles, but the Tigers' tournament run ended with a 6-5 loss.
The Hall of Fame induction recognizes a team whose historic postseason breakthrough and record-setting production established a lasting standard for Campbellsville baseball.
