CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville University scored three times in less than two minutes and built a six-goal first-half advantage Saturday, overwhelming Midway University 8-0 at Finley Stadium to rebound from its first loss of the season.
- Campbellsville took command with a rapid scoring burst. Fiona Jolly, Marta Prieto, and Julia Ogren scored between 8:04 and 9:50, giving the Tigers a 3-0 advantage in 1 minute, 46 seconds.
- Ogren scored twice and added an assist, placing all three of her shots on goal and contributing to three of Campbellsville's eight scores.
- The Tigers displayed their scoring depth. Seven players found the net, with Jolly, Prieto, Ogren, Amelie Matheis, Valeria Chavez, Wilma Gidlof, and Anita Arnadottir contributing goals.
- Campbellsville controlled possession and attacking territory. The Tigers outshot Midway 32-0, placed 16 attempts on frame, and earned all five corner kicks.
- The Tigers maintained their pressure after establishing the lead. Campbellsville attempted 18 second-half shots and forced seven saves after taking a 6-0 advantage into halftime.
- Hall and Schneider shared the clean sheet. Sydney Hall played the opening 45 minutes before Verena Schneider completed the second half as Campbellsville prevented Midway from recording a shot.
- Campbellsville responded immediately following its first defeat. The Tigers improved to 6-1-2 and recorded their sixth shutout through nine matches.
Campbellsville began applying pressure immediately, with Prieto sending an attempt high in the second minute before the Tigers earned their first corner. Jolly opened the scoring at 8:04, finishing a pass from Prieto.
Prieto doubled the advantage only 20 seconds later off an assist from Ogren. Ogren then scored unassisted at 9:50, completing the three-goal sequence and putting Campbellsville ahead 3-0 before the 10-minute mark.
The Tigers added another goal at 14:18 when Jolly set up Matheis. Campbellsville then made several substitutions while continuing to control play in the attacking half.
Chavez converted a penalty kick at 26:51 for Campbellsville's fifth goal. Gidlof extended the advantage in the 38th minute, scoring shortly after Lillian Klee saved her first attempt.
Grace Smith nearly added another goal before halftime, striking the crossbar in the 44th minute. Campbellsville entered the break with a 6-0 lead after outshooting Midway 14-0.
The Tigers continued to generate opportunities after halftime. Klee stopped Smith's header in the 47th minute, but Ogren scored her second unassisted goal at 52:58 to increase the lead to 7-0.
Klee made four more saves over the next eight minutes, denying Gidlof, Ogren, Matheis, and Prieto as Campbellsville maintained its pressure.
Arnadottir completed the scoring at 70:17 with an unassisted goal. Campbellsville continued to threaten during the closing stages, with
Katie Beuker forcing a save and
Sara Giraldo Romero striking the crossbar.
Campbellsville finished with advantages of 32-0 in shots, 16-0 in shots on goal, and 5-0 in corner kicks.
