CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. —
Marta Prieto scored twice and added an assist as the Tigers pulled away in the second half to defeat the Bethel University Wildcats 6-0 on Thursday at Finley Stadium, improving to 2-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
- The Tigers improved to 7-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-South, while Bethel fell to 0-6-1 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
- Prieto led a balanced attack. She contributed to three goals, assisting Fiona Jolly before scoring twice in 34 seconds for Campbellsville's fourth and fifth goals.
- Six goals came from five players. Oddny Helgadottir, Amelie Matheis, Jolly, Prieto, and Grace Smith each scored as the Tigers received production throughout the lineup.
- Campbellsville dictated the attacking play. The Tigers outshot the Wildcats 26-7, placed 14 attempts on goal, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- The Tigers increased their pressure after halftime. Campbellsville generated 15 second-half shots and scored four times after carrying a 2-0 lead into the break.
- The goalkeepers combined for another clean sheet. Sydney Hall made four saves over the opening 83:19 before Verena Schneider stopped Bethel's final shot on goal.
- Campbellsville rarely allowed sustained pressure. Bethel attempted only one first-half shot, while the Tigers' defense and goalkeepers turned away five second-half attempts on frame to complete the shutout.
Campbellsville established possession in the attacking third early, earning two corner kicks and producing four shots during the opening 15 minutes. The Tigers broke through at 22:09 when
Laura Munoz assisted Helgadottir for the opening goal.
Prieto forced Lola Guerin into a save less than a minute later before Matheis doubled the advantage at 26:17 with an unassisted goal. Guerin made two additional saves before halftime, denying Prieto and Matheis.
Bethel generated its lone attempt of the first half in the 41st minute, but Campbellsville blocked the shot from Manon Petit.
Wilma Gidlof nearly added a third goal before the break, striking the crossbar at 44:30.
Campbellsville resumed its pressure immediately after halftime, with
Julia Ogren hitting the post in the 46th minute. Jolly extended the advantage to 3-0 at 50:00, finishing a pass from Prieto.
Hall stopped attempts from Jacqueline Carbajal in the 47th and 53rd minutes before the Tigers put the match out of reach. After Guerin denied Prieto twice and Munoz once, Gidlof set up Prieto at 57:37 for Campbellsville's fourth goal.
Prieto struck again 34 seconds later, scoring unassisted to complete her brace and push the lead to 5-0. She finished with a match-high eight shots, including six on goal.
Hall added two more saves during the second half, stopping Rose Boichat and Briley Ross. Smith completed Campbellsville's scoring with an unassisted goal at 82:11.
Schneider replaced Hall in the closing minutes and saved Ross' attempt at 88:26, sealing Campbellsville's seventh shutout of the season. The Tigers finished with advantages of 26-7 in shots, 14-5 in shots on goal, and 7-1 in corner kicks.
