BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the third time in his career, Campbellsville's Corbin Harris has earned the Mid-South Conference's Champions of Character award.

Harris, a senior from Leitchfield, Ky., has been named the Men's Cross Country Champion of Character twice (2016 and 2018) and the men's track and field recipient once (2017).

Champions of Character is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) initiative that recognizes athletes who mirror the core values — integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.

Every nominee is required to supply a letter of recommendation from their coach and also a personal letter to the conference athletics directors, who form the voting committee.

"This will be my third year recommending Corbin, and that is by no mistake," said coach Hilary Lakes. "Corbin is an outstanding individual on our cross country team who has so many great qualities that will be greatly missed when he graduates this spring.

"Corbin has a big impact within our University and has many different things he is involved in, but still makes sure to prioritize himself and his commitment to different things."

A portion of Harris' personal statement to the Mid-South Conference is as follows:

"It wasn't until I became a student athlete at Campbellsville University and a NAIA athlete that became more intentional with what the core values have meant and mean to me. I feel like throughout this past year, there are many ways that I have demonstrated each of these values consistently. By following the core values, I have found new opportunities in my career field as well as build other relationships through networking. I have strengthened my relationships with my peers and competitors by participating in service opportunities in my community.

"After I graduate from Campbellsville University, I plan on attending graduate school to earn a graduate degree in law or marketing. While I am undecided between a career as a sports agent or sports marketer, I am sure I want to work in professional athletics. However, the core character values of the NAIA are relevant to either of the career fields I pursue.

"By living a life valuing characteristics like these, I can show love and encouragement to everyone I encounter, ultimately serving as the hands and feet of Jesus."
