Austin Peterson was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Peterson hit for a .583 batting average in the four games against William Carey with six RBIs, three doubles, and a home run to lead CU in RBIs and slugging percentage (1.083) in the early going.
The senior from Miami, Fla. got his season started on the highest of high notes as he slammed a three-run home run in his first at bat of the season in game one on Friday to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Peterson finished that game with three hits including a double later in the game.
Though he didn't start in every game, Peterson did get an at bat and a hit in all four games, going 1-for-1 in game two on Friday pinch hitting for the DH spot in the sixth inning.
Peterson started both games on Saturday, one at catcher and one at designated hitter combining to go 3-for-7 with three RBIs and two more doubles, one in each game.
CU will get back in action this week for a midweek game against Union College this Wednesday and a weekend series against Reinhardt University. The game at Union was moved from its originally schedule date of Tuesday due to rain in the forecast and the series at Reinhardt is plan to be played as scheduled.
