GREENVILLE, S.C. — For the first time in his career, Campbellsville's
Rafael Cruz earned NCCAA Men's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week, officials announced on Monday.
In addition to his Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week award, Cruz has racked up the honors to start his week.
The Tigers went 4-1 on the week extending their over-a-month and a half long winning streak to 15 matches before falling to the No. 2 team in the NAIA Coaches' Poll Lourdes University to end the regular season.
Their wins came against Cumberland University at home and Thomas More University on the road as well as neutral site wins over Cardinal Stritch University and Lawrence Tech at the Lourdes University Invitational.
Cruz, the leading attacker for the Tigers, led CU in kills in three of the five matches with all of the three coming in Campbellsville wins. In total, the Greenwood, Ind. native recorded 51 kills in the five matches throughout the week. He also recorded 19 digs, 13 blocks and six aces on the serve over the week to help the junior earn his first weekly honor of the season and of his career.
The Tigers will head into the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. as the No. 3 seed and will play Webber International University on Thursday.
