BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's volleyball team's sophomore Joudiel Poveymirow was given the honor of Libero of the Year by the Mid-South Conference, announced at conference's awards banquet in Bowling Green, Ky. on Thursday night.

Poveymirow was the main libero for the Tigers throughout the 2019 season, though he did play some matches as a full rotational player at different points of the season.

The libero position is the position in volleyball that can be subbed in and out freely throughout the match, as most teams use that player as a defensive specialist to rotate in and out with the two middle blocker starters.

Poveymirow fit that mold this season as he led the Mid-South Conference through the regular season in the digs category, pulling 345 attacks off the floor in 27 of the team's 28 matches. He played 94 sets in those 27 matches to average 3.7 digs per set, also the best average in the conference.

There were 16 matches this season where Poveymirow had his dig count in double digits along with four other matches where he had nine digs. His season-high came on Feb. 9 when he recorded 23 digs in a four-set loss to St. Andrews in the second meeting between CU and SAU.

The Orlando, Fla. native showed flashes of his all-around ability through the season as he finished with 33 kills, 60 assists and 22 service aces. All but two of the 33 kills came in the three matches Poveymirow played as a full rotational player, leading the team in kills in those matches with two matches of 10 kills and his season-high coming on March 28 against Thomas More where he had 11.

The Tigers will being the MSC Tournament tomorrow as they close the action for the day with the last might of the night against Webber International. The match is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. CT/10:00 p.m. ET at Bowling Green High School with five other matches to be played earlier in the day.
