GREENVILLE, S.C. – Two Campbellsville baseball players were able to add to their career accolades as seniors
Anthony Arias and
Tyler Deason were named NCCAA First Team All-Americans.
Both Tigers were the top-two starting pitchers in the CU rotation during the 2019 season as they were also first and second on the team in innings pitched during their senior season. Both also had big moments for Campbellsville in the Mid-South Conference Tournament where the Tigers won their second-straight tournament championship.
Deason was a two-way player, both hitting and pitching, for CU as he led the team in batting average and RBIs at the plate as well as posting a sub-four ERA on the mound.
As a pitcher, Deason posted a 3.67 ERA in 13 appearances with 12 starts for a 5-3 record in 61.1 innings pitched, including a complete game shutout on April 12 against Cumberland University. His .368 average in 47 games, 45 starts, either at 1B or DH was .011 points higher than the next better batter on the Tigers' roster and his 53 RBIs made Deason the only player over the 50 RBI marker in 2019.
Arias, the LHP ace of the Tigers' rotation, finished with a 6-4 record in 12 starts with a 3.78 ERA over 64.1 innings pitched. His most memorable outing of the season came in his last start in the MSC Tournament when he threw six no-hit innings against Georgetown College to help CU advance in the opening round.
Both players wrapped up their careers in the Campbellsville uniform, both playing big parts in helping the Tigers win back-to-back Mid-South Conference Tournament Championships for the first time in 10 years.
