COLUMBIA, Ky. – In just their second event of the 2019-20 season and their first of the new year, Campbellsville University women's track and field athlete Haley Payton earned the Mid-South Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
 
While competing at the Jim Green Track and Field Invitational this past Saturday, Payton had strong showings in both the long jump and triple jump events including hitting the NAIA B-Standard in the triple jump.
 
Payton and the rest of the Lady Tigers were the only NAIA athletes competing against a primarily NCAA Division I competition hosted by the University of Kentucky.
 
The sophomore's triple jump distance came in at 11.30 meters as she narrowly missed the A-standard of 11.35 meters but was enough to place her eighth in the meet. Payton was able to use a 4.61-meter mark for 28th place in the long jump.
 
Payton earned three of the seven weekly honors from the conference last season on her way to becoming a First Team All Mid-South Conference Selection and a national qualifier at both the NAIA and NCCAA level.
 
The Lady Tigers will be back to competition in two weeks when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Rose-Hulman Friday Night Invitational.
