COLUMBIA, Ky. – As the Campbellsville University women's wrestling team moved to the No. 1 spot in the NAIA rankings last week, one of the wrestlers that helped them get there,
Alexandra Castillo earned the Mid-South Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Castillo, who wrestles at 191 lbs., earned an 8-1 decision victory over Life University's Gabrielle Hamilton, who was the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 191 lbs. entering the dual.
This honor is the second of her career as Castillo joins
Abby Nette as the only Lady Tigers to earn the MSC's Women's Wrester of the Week this season as Nette has done so twice already this season.
That win by Castillo, sealed a big 33-13 win for the Lady Tigers as they beat Life when the Running Eagles were ranked No. 1 in the NAIA rankings with CU entering the dual ranked No. 2.
Since then, Campbellsville hopped to No. 1 and Castillo even moved to the No. 6 ranked wrestler in the 191 lbs. weight class in the update polls that were released last Thursday.
Castillo and the Lady Tigers will wrestle a road dual against University of the Cumberlands this Tuesday before traveling to the WCWA College Women's National Tournament starting this Friday. Campbellsville already owns a pair of dual victories over the Patriots this season as they look to make it three wins tomorrow.
