SAO JOSE, Brazil —
Kayla Miracle and
Andribeth Rivera qualified for the Pan American Championships in Brazil this weekend and represented Campbellsville University well with a pair of Bronze medals.
Miracle, a junior wrestling at 58 kg., is coming off a U.S. Women's Freestyle National Team qualification and won her first match before falling to eventual Gold medal winner Michelle Christina from Canada.
Miracle's day started with an 11-0 win over Brazil's Brenda Ari Oliveria Palhet. But she ran into a buzz saw in Fazzari, falling 6-1.
Rivera, wrestling at 55 kg., competed in a round robin tournament and also came home with a Bronze medal. She lost her first match by fall to Brianne Mari of Canada and lost to the Becka Leathers of the United States before winning her final two matches.
Rivera defeated Brazil's Mayara Amali, 8-4, and Mexico's Brenda E Fernandez Salaz via fall in 1:05.
"Kayla and Andribeth both continue to test themselves and get better. That's the secret," said coach
Lee Miracle. "Don't concentrate on winning or losing. That develops performance anxiety. They both concentrate on improving every match and every practice. That will get you where you want to be. The best way to do that is test yourself. Kayla and Andribeth both do that and it is paying off."
Multiple Lady Tigers will now compete in the Bodybar Junior World Team Trials in Irving, Texas on Saturday-Sunday, May 20-21.
