BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Campbellsville's Brianna Scott continues to show why she is not only an All-Conference performer on the field but also off. The junior from Greensburg, Ky., earned the Mid-South Conference's Female Character First Award at tonight's annual banquet inside the National Corvette Museum.

The award is presented annually to one male and female student-athlete participating in a championship varsity sport at a MSC full-member institution. The honoree is chosen by the MSC Athletics Directors and displays integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. Through consistently demonstrating these character traits in word and action, the student-athlete has made a profound impact on their team, their institution, and their community.

The wraps up Brianna Scott in a nutshell. She not only carries herself like a Godly student-athlete off the field, but she does so on the field as well.

"Those who find happiness in serving others will never live an unhappy life," Scott said in her personal statement attached to this year's nomination form. "At a young age I heard this statement and it has stuck with me to this day."

"To win this prestigious honor after also being named the MSC Softball Champions of Character the past two seasons is tremendous," said CU Director of Athletics, Rusty Hollingsworth. "I know her coach and teammates share my pride in her willingness to give to others. Her servant spirit infects everyone she is around."

The two-time MSC Champions of Character award winner has exactly that… a servants spirit and heart. Scott joined the CU athletics department last summer on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. But she wasn't only teaching the game of softball to the locals, Scott was working in their hearts, as well in Morgan Gailor's. Scott led her teammate to accepting Jesus Christ into her heart and there is no greater story or win than that.

"Brianna has exemplified what it means to be a student-athlete and a Champion of Character through dedication to her church, family and the university," said coach Shannon Wathen. "Through softball, a game that she loves, Bri also had the opportunity to touch numerous lives through fundamentals camps and prayer during the mission trip and I could not have been more proud when Morgan Gailor accepted Christ into her life.

"For the last seven years she has been part of Constructors for Christ, when, during a week each summer, she assists in the building of a church in a different city or state. While at the worksite, Bri helps with a variety of duties, including ductwork, insulation, roofing, electrical wiring and dry walling.

"She also has volunteered for the past six years teaching Vacation Bible School at the Aetna Grove Baptist Church. It is a weeklong program where she spends time teaching children about the Gospel.

"Bri has excelled academically, being named to the Dean's or President's List each semester on campus and was named an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete this season."

Scott hopes to someday become a high school math teacher and a coach if it's God's plan, she said.

"Both of these positions take place during a vital time period of teenagers' lives. Children at that age are so impressionable and the things you say and do will have an impact on their lives for forever," continued Scott. "I hope to make a lasting impact on young peoples' lives by modeling the five character values of a Champion of Character on a daily basis."

Brianna Scott, you are a true Champion of Character!
