COLUMBIA, Ky. –
Hunter Brown and
BJ Pelt were named the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Both Brown and Pelt earned the weekly honor for the first time this season after leading the Tigers to its first season opening win since 2011 after beating University of Pikeville at home last Thursday night, 28-14.
Brown was named the offensive player of the week after completing 37-of-53 passes. His 37 completions are tied for second-most in program history and were one shy of tying his program record he set last season.
To finish off week one, Brown threw for a total of 383 yards and had three passing touchdowns, while also rushing the ball for five yards in the game.
During his first game in a Campbellsville uniform, Pelt recorded the lone turnover of the game for the Tigers with an interception in the fourth quarter that he returned 17 yards, inside Pikeville's 30-yard line.
Pelt also recorded seven tackles in the game – highlighted by six solo tackles – and finished with a team-high four pass breakups. As a unit the Campbellsville defense did not allow the Bears inside the red zone, while also surrendering just 62 rushing yards and shutting the Bears out in the first and fourth quarters.
This is Brown's second career player of the week recognition, while Pelt earns his first career weekly honor.
The Tigers are back in action this Saturday as they travel to Valley, Alabama to face Point University on the road at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Rounding out the first MSC Bluegrass Division weekly honors is Pablo Dongarro Travecedo of Cumberland University who was named the Special Teams Player of the Week in the division.
