CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –
Julia Fonseca was named the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week after helping Campbellsville go 5-0 this past week, the conference office announced on Monday.
This is Fonseca's first career conference weekly honor.
During the Lady Tigers 5-0 week, the native of Sao Paulo, Brazil recorded 15 total blocks. She finished the five matches with four solo blocks and 11 assisted blocks.
Fonseca also compiled 36 kills over the five matches. She had 10 kills on the second day of the Southeastern Challenge against Webber International University, where she also racked up six blocks.
Throughout the week, Fonseca had at least five kills in each of the five matches, while recording a block in every match.
Campbellsville has started the season 6-0, which is the program's best start to a season since 2008, where it won its first seven games.
The Lady Tigers are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Williamsburg, Ky., to face University of the Cumberlands in the first conference match of the season at 7 p.m. ET.
Joining Fonseca in the MSC weekly honors are Caroline Ricks of Georgetown College (attacker) and Makenzie Montano of Lindsey Wilson College (setter).
