McKendree Pins Campbellsville in season opener!

The 18th ranked Campbellsville University wrestling team travelled to Lebanon Illinois for the season opener against #3 ranked Mckendree on Wednesday night.

The Tigers were able to get 3 wins on the night and lost several close matches. McKendree was able to get bonus point wins at 157, 165, and 184.

The match started at 141 pounds and McKendree sent out Senior and #6 ranked Jermaine Waye to take on Freshman Seth Lucas from CU. Waye was able to keep the action slow from neutral and take top in the second period. A two point near fall and riding time would be all he would need to get the win. Seth could not score in the 3rd period and lost a tight 3-0 match.

Next up for Campbellsville at 149 pounds was freshman Ruben Perez. Ruben scored a takedown with near fall in the first period and added a second period escape to claim a 6-4 decision and put CU on the board, tying the team score 3-3.

After tying the score McKendree got a big shot of momentum with pins at 157 and 165. James Linker found himself in a back and forth battle at 157 pounds. Late in the second period he had the McKendree wrestler on his back but could not get the pin. Senior Harry Joseph knocked off CU freshman Phillip Oudhuis at 174 pounds.

Tanner Wolk was able to Pin Spencer Adams at 184 and help build a big lead before CU could get anything going. Glen Jackson finally got another win for Campbellsville at 197 pounds.

McKendree avoided a show down between 1 ranked Sanchez and 3 ranked Jackson at 197 when they chose to bump Sanchez up to wrestle Chad Brown at Heavyweight. Chad Brown wrestled Sanchez to a 3-1 overtime loss.

Johny Papesh wrestled a very good match with good action from his feet and a very workman like attitude on top at 125 pounds. Johnny scored a 16-1, 3rd period Tech fall. The last match of the night featured # 2 ranked Wade Lowe of McKendree and Freshman Tom Pretty of Campbellsville. The most exciting match of the night with Lowe getting a hard fought 6-3 victory and closing out the duel. Campbellsville will be back in action this weekend, November 9th at the King College Open.
