Kansas City, MO - Unseeded Campbellsville University continued to roll in the Buffalo Funds NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship with an 80-64 win over 11th seeded McKendree University today in the second round.
Nestor Colmenares (JR/Caracas, Venezuela) tallied 26 points and 11 rebounds to propel the Tigers into the Elite 8 of the National Tournament for the first time in Campbellsville's history. The Tigers led 48-24 at halftime behind red-hot shooting and ended up shooting 51.7% for the game, including 13 of 28 from the three point line. Campbellsville outrebounded McKendree 41 to 32.
Colmenares' double-double was his second in as many games and
Bubba Long (SR/Owensboro, KY) scored 17 points while
Marcus Nicks (JR/Ellicott City, MD) had 11 in the Tigers 25th victory of the year.
Campbellsville (25-9) advances into the quarterfinal's to face Oklahoma Baptist University (24-9) at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Campbellsville's win, combined with Oklahoma Baptist's 10 point win over Lambuth ensures that an unseeded team will participate in the NAIA Fab Four on Monday. The winner of tomorrow's game will play at 9:30 p.m. on Monday evening for the right to advance into Tuesday's National Championship tilt.
