Baseball Completes Friday Night Sweep of Georgetown

Georgetown, Kentucky

The Tigers got back in the swing on things Today at Georgetown as they completed a double header sweep.  The first two games of the four game series were dominated by pitching, but Campbellsville due Jeff Duda and Morgan Carlile prevailed, propelling the Tigers to the wins.  The wins lifted the Tigers to 3-2 in conference play.

Game one featured an absolutely dominating performance by senior transfer Jeff Duda.  Duda went the distance for the Tigers, allowing just 4 hits, striking out 9, and walking none.  Duda did not allow a single runner to reach third base all day.

Offensively, the Tigers got the ball rolling in the third inning as they scored a couple to go up 2-0.  Chance Harker led off the inning with a ground ball through the six hole, and was followed by a Hector Urbaneja double to the left center gap.  The double scored Harker standing up.  Junior Rob Elliott followed Urbaneja and slapped a single into right field to stake the Tigers to a 2-0 lead.

Two runs were more than enough for Duda as he cruised through the back half of the game.  The Tigers would provide the senior right hander three more insurance runs as they coasted to a 5-0 final.  Top hitters for the Tigers were senior Hector Urbaneja (2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI) and sophomore Chris Curley (3 for 4, 2 RBI).

The night cap proved to be a little be tighter as Campbellsville starter Morgan Carlile locked horns with Georgetown starter Ryan Anderson in classic pitchers' duel.  Carlile kept the Tigers in the game, holding Georgetown to just one run through the first five innings.

Down 1-0 in the top of the sixth, the Tiger bats finally came to life.  After a Rob Elliott single, Chris Curley came to the plate with two outs.  With a 1-2 count, Curley blasted the Anderson changeup over the left field wall for his third homerun of the year.

Staked to the 2-1 lead, Carlile retired the next six hitters to seal the win for the Tigers.  Carlile teetered on brilliant in the night cap, going the distance, allowing one run on four hits, four strikeouts, and he walked nobody.  Top hitters for the Tigers were Hector Urbaneja (2 for 3) and Chris Curley (1 for 3, HR(3), 2 RBI).

Games three and four of the conference series will kick off tomorrow from the campus of Georgetown.  The Tigers will send Brian Edelen (1-0, 0.56 ERA, 17 K, 2 BB) in game three of the series, and senior Chris Lemay (1-2, 5.40 ERA, 18 K in 13 IP) will toe the slab for the series finale.

Baseball Quick Facts:

*The Tiger pitching staff continues to overpower opponents.  The staff holds an ERA of 2.60 and opponents are hitting just .199.  The Tigers have struck out 95 hitters, and walked just 30.

*Three headed ace: Jeff Duda (2-1, 2.01 ERA), Morgan Carlile (1-2, 1.47 ERA), and Brian Edelen (1-0, 0.56 ERA), might give the Tigers the best 1-2-3 punch in the region.
