Campbellsville, Kentucky
Â
Coming into last night's game, the Tigers had lost their first two conference games. They had their work cut out for them as they took the court against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College.Â
Â
Things could not have started out any better for Campbellsville, as they opened up the game with a 8-2 run. The Raiders continued to chip away though and ended up dominating the first half of play leading 30-23. At one point in the first half, Lindsey Wilson went on a 12-2 run and had the momentum at half time.
Â
Coach Adkins and company came out rolling in the second half, and with less than ten minutes to go in the game, the Tigers were leading by four points. The atmosphere in Powell became a tense one as everyone seemed to know this one would come down to the buzzer...and it did. With less than one minute to play, the Tigers trailed by two points. The Tigers got a turnover and set up for what many would be the final shot. After passing the ball around,
Shawn Savage had a good look behind the arc and went for the jugular. His three point attempt came up just short and the ball went back into the hands of Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers quickly fouled and would have one more shot. The Raiders made just one of their two free throws and Campbellsville trailed by three and had time for one last shot.
Â
After bringing the ball down, the team's superstar player
Zach Allender launched a three point attempt with three seconds in an attempt to tie the game. The shot just missed and it fell into the hands of the Raiders, sealing the win for them.
Â
Despite their valiant efforts, Campbellsville fell to 0-3 in conference play last night, and 7-10 overall. For the Tigers,
Zach Allender had yet another monster game, racking up 28 points, and he pulled down 7 rebounds. Allender is the leading scorer in the Mid South Conference, and he also leads the conference in rebounds.Â
Shawn Savage also had a big night, with 13 points of his own.
Â
Even though they lost on paper last night, the Tigers were resiliant and look to carry that momentum into tomorrow as they will host Brescia University at 8:00 PM in non-conference action.
