Lady Tigers struggle though mud

The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers cross country team fought though muddy terrain as it placed 13th at the Southeast Classic on Saturday in Louisville. With the University of the Cumberlands finishing ahead of them, the Lady Tigers edged other conference teams Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown College.

There was an exciting finish as Amy Etherington and Tawny Vilchis duked it out for the finish. Etherington edged out Vilchis at the line by .46 of a second for the team lead and placing 38th with a time of 20:30.07. Vilchis gave it her all at the line placing 39th in the time of 20:30.53. Daisey Perez placed 68th running the time of 21:20. Natasha Janes placed 71st in the time of 21:27.

Another outstanding show of heart was Summer Rines and Starsha Fant. Fant, with a last ditch effort, passed Rines and a Berea College runner to finish 95th in the time of 22:25.24. Rines showed determination at the finish line and finished 97th with the time of 22:26.15. Dorjpalam Khurelbaatar placed 108th in the time of 23:30. Kasey Vitkus finished 142nd in the time of 24:03. Erin Collins finished 154th in the time of 24:39.

Campbellsville will return to action Nov. 7 in the Mid-South Conference meet at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.
