Campbellsville wins first game 96-65 over Michigan Dearborn

Campbellsville broke open a 14-10 game in Columbia Friday night at the Lindsey Wilson College Homecoming Classic, pulling out to a 51-24 half-time lead. The Tigers went on to defeat the University of Michigan at Dearborn 96-65 after an exhibition loss to the University of Kentucky five days earlier.

Campbellsville led by as many as 32 in the second half. Dearborn cut that lead to 24 before Nestor Colmenares hammered home two successive dunks.

Colmenares led all scores with 18 points, even though saddled with foul trouble much of the game. He led all rebounders as well with 14 caroms.

"We kind of pieced this one together," said CU coach Keith Adkins. "We're a little short-handed right now and then Nestor got two quick fouls."

Campbellsville got 15 positive minutes from reserve Jonas Bohm. Bohm hit all six of his field goal attempts and two of Campbellsville's six free throw for 14 points. He also had six rebounds.

"Jonas is a work in progress," said Adkins. "The more he plays the better he's going to get."

Adkins wasn't as complimentary of his teams 6-22 free throw shooting.

"That is ridiculous and will get you beat against the better teams."

Campbellsville (1-0) had four players to reach double figures. In addition to Colmenares and Bohm, Caleb Harris had 14 and Brett Crittenden added 10.

Dearborn (0-1) was led by Matt Ponik with 17 points and 10 boards.

In the first half, Campbellsville was led by Shawn Savage and Nestor Colmenares' eight points.
Colmenares was whistled for his third foul at the 2:36 mark of the first half, limiting him to nine minutes on the court. Savage was efficient in his 13-minute stint off the bench with two three-pointers and eight points. Savage did not score in the second half.

Campbellsville plays Roberts Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
