Tigers sweep LWC Basketball Classic

Campbellsville University moved to 2-0 to start the year after beating Roberts Wesleyan College, 83-61, to close the Lindsey Wilson Classic on Saturday.

The Tigers trailed Roberts Wesleyan by three points, 8-5, in the first five minutes of the game, but Joe Robinson scored five straight points on two buckets and a free throw to give CU a 10-8 lead. The Tigers never looked back.

Robinson's points sparked a 17-4 run over the next eight minutes to give Campbellsville a 10-point lead. The Tigers led by as many as 12 in the first half before taking a 33-23 lead into the break.

"We played much better than we did the first night. I thought we defended really well. We held them to 23 points in the first half, and that's where we want to be. The more we play the better we're going to be," CU head coach Keith Adkins said.

Robinson and Nestor Colmenares each scored 18 points to lead CU. Colmenares also added a team-high six rebounds, two blocks, four assists and three steals. Jermaine Carter followed the pair with 14 points, while Caleb Harris had 13.

CU (2-0) opens its home season Friday, Nov. 13 in the Lou Cunningham Memorial Tournament. The Tigers host Bluefield College at 8 p.m.
