Campbellsville University, riding the legs of
Tawny Vilchis, finished third out of eight teams in the Centre College Cross Country Invitational Saturday in Danville.
Vilchis ran the 3.1-mile course in 21:12.62, good for a seventh place individual finish. Georgetown's Britney Chesser, a senior, won in a time of 19:31.13.
The Lady Tigers (66) were just two points shy of second-place Georgetown, a fellow Mid-South Conference team. Centre won the meet with 31 points. Sixty-nine runners were timed.
"We ran without two girls, our No. 3 runner
Amy Etherington was ill and
Erin Collins is having issues with her legs," said coach Scott Hortness. "I believe Amy would have finished high enough to move us up a place in the standings."
"We still have some runners going out a bit fast and running an undisciplined race," Hortness continued. "When we fix that, we will be able to finish stronger."
Junior
Daisy Perez was 10th with a time of 21:37.11. The rest of the CU runners scoring in the team total were:
Natasha Janes, 14th, 22:15.83;
Starsha Fant, 20th, 22:38.69; and
Summer Rines, 23rd, 22:48.50. Other Lady Tigers competing were:
Meagan Pickett and
Kasey Vitkus.
Next Saturday CU travels to Cedarville, Ohio.
