Box Score It would be an oversimplification, but in soccer if you don't score goals you generally don't win.
Campbellsville University's men have scored two goals in three games and their record is 0-3 after a 2-1 loss Tuesday to Tennessee Wesleyan.
"For this team it's all about desire," said Coach
Adam Preston. "We had a great year last year and now everyone is coming after us."
The difference from one year to the next is striking. The Tigers had accumulated 14 goals after three games last season, but the frustration is beginning to set in. Campbellsville drew five yellow cards against Wesleyan (2-2).
At halftime Preston said he'd never had a team to dominate (time of possession) like the Tigers did and still be down 1-0.
That's because Wesleyan's Mitchell Lawson scored an unassisted goal on a carom off one goalpost to the other with just over two minutes to go in the half.
Both teams had six shots on goal.
Camilo Muller assisted on a goal by
Alex Adams to tie the score, but Wesleyan's Eddie Carballo hit the game-winner with 12 minutes to go.
Campbellsville goes on the road Friday and Saturday with games in Jackson, Tenn. against Union University and Bethel College.
