Campbellsville University, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA,
followed up its seventh-place finish at the NWCA National Duals with its second
tournament win of the season at the Spartan Mat Classic in Manchester, Ind.
Campbellsville had three first place finishers, four runners-up, two
third-place finishers and one in fourth, as the Tigers' 190 team points bested the
18-team field.
Johnny Papesh (125), Conor Young (157) and James Linker (165) each won their
bracket for CU. Papesh, seeded first at 125 pounds, pinned third-seed Cody
Stewart of Mount St. Joseph in a time of 1:44 to win the division.
Young and Linker led CU with two pins each in the
tournament. He pinned Elliott Corner of Trine University in a time of 1:00 in
his first match and pinned Chandler Pogue of Manchester College in 5:26 to
reach the final. Linker took down Jesse Kugler of North Central College in 1:32
and Tyler Wilfley of NCC in 6:40.
Campbellsville will take a week off before hosting McKendree College for its
only home dual of the season Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
