Sophomore Daphillo Success of Bell Glade, Fla. placed fourth
at 133 pounds to lead Campbellsville in the Midwest Wrestling Classic Jan. 2-3
in Indianapolis. Success was the only Tiger wrestler to place in the 22-team tournament,
as CU finished 21st with 23 points.
Success won his first three matches 4-1, 5-2, 3-1 before losing in the
semifinal to eventual champion Todd Wilcox of Grand Canyon University. He beat
TD Thurston from UNC-Pembroke, 5-1, to advance to the consolation match, but
fell in a 6-3 decision to Jan Ulinski of the University of Findlay.
Bryan Wells has two wins in the tournament, while Matt
David, Spenser Adams and
Diante Wright each had one. Overall, CU wrestlers
combined for a 9-18 record in the tournament.
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside won the tournament with
a score of 127, followed by Newberry College (117.5), Adams State (110),
University of Indianapolis (104) and University of Findlay (99.5) to round out
the Top 5.
CU competes next in the National Duels in Cedar Falls, Iowa
next weekend, Jan. 9-10.
