Box Score Drew Sin, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, won't know for three more years how special a victory on senior night can be. But Sin made six seniors special night a whole lot sweeter when he booted in a goal in the 39th minute off an assist from
Pontus Yngve, giving Campbellsville University the only goal it needed against Asbury.
Sin approached on the left flank as Yngve crossed the ball in traffic. His left-footed boot glanced off Asbury goalkeeper Heath Crist's glove and into the corner of the net.
"It wasn't a great game, but we did what we had to do to win," said coach
Adam Preston. "We've just been really exhausted the last couple of weeks. We've had some long road trips, and we just wanted to get this game in the book because we have a week before our next one."
CU controlled the game - outshooting the Eagles 17-1.
"It probably wasn't a very pretty game to watch, but that's just because we couldn't get it in the back of the net," said Preston.
Prior to the game, Campbellsville honored six seniors who, according to Preston, have been a part of two of the best seasons in program history. In 2008 the Tigers finished 17-7 and the Tigers are sitting on a 14-4 (5-3 MSC) slate to date.
They have just been a special group," said Preston. "They've made the program what it has become."
Being honored were:
James Clements, Lebanon, Ky.;
Alex Adams, Georgetown, Ind.;
Bryan Walton, Benton, Ky.;
Vince Hazelwood, Brandenburg, Ky.;
Gustavo Valecillos, Venezuela; and
Seth Asher, Murray, Ky.
"All six have made a statement of the character this team has and when they leave they'll represent this university very well," said Preston.
CU awaits word on its first-round opponent in the Mid-South Conference tournament. The Tigers will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and host either Shawnee State University or West Virginia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 6.
