LEBANON, Tenn. - One good thing about a basketball schedule, it gives a team plenty of opportunities for redemption.
And that's what
Ginger Colvin's team did Saturday afternoon in Lebanon, Tenn., taking care of Cumberland University 84-56.
"I think we did a pretty good job," said Colvin. "They were pretty physical, but we out-rebounded them 51-32."
The Lady Tigers wasted little time as they pushed a 27-16 advantage into a 45-24 half-time lead and were never seriously threatened after that.
Cumberland (4-3) was undefeated at home until the Lady Tigers rolled into town.
Courtney Clifton led a balanced attack with 22 points as Campbellsville improved to 3-1. The other four starters were in double figures:
Whitney Ballinger 21,
Mackenzie Lee and
Melly Heaton, 11 apiece, and
Courtney Danis 10. Ballinger had a double-double with 10 boards and Danis just missed a double with nine.
"We had a bout a 10-minute spurt where we just couldn't pull away," analyzed Golvin. "But we gave a pretty god effort and beat a TransSouth team on their home floor."
Campbellsville travels to McKendree (Ill.) University for a Black Friday matchup with the Lady Bearcats. That game starts at 8:00. On Saturday the Lady Tigers will play Missouri Baptist at 6:00 in The McKendree Classic.
