Lady Tigers explode for 92-55 win over Missouri Baptist

LEBANON, Ill. - Campbellsville turned a six-point lead at intermission into a 56-35 lead six minutes into the second half and the rout was on. The Lady Tigers (5-1) beat Missouri Baptist University 92-55.

"That's the best job defensively that we've done," said coach Ginger Colvin. "We were really active. I'm really, really pleased with them."

Much of the success can be credited to Megan Isaacs, a junior from Munfordville, Ky, who collected a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had four steals.

"That's the first time we've actually seen Megan Isaacs," said Colvin. "She came in and did an outstanding job."

It was nip and tuck for most of the first half with Missouri Baptist holding a 19-18 lead midway through the initial half until an Isaac bucket gave the Lady Tigers a 25-19 lead they would never relinquish. Melly Heaton canned a 3 and a free throw to push the lead to 10.

CU outscored Missouri (3-6) 51-20 in the second half.

"More than anything we just turned up the heat defensively. They were the type of team we could switch on and the kids got active," said Colvin.

Campbellsville forced 23 turnovers while committing only 13 themselves.

"It's going to be good to come off two games like this and make it home for a couple of games," said Colvin. "We got to play some more kids and we're looking for some more people to pick up a few minutes."

Whitney Ballinger led all scorers with 23 points along with nine rebounds in 24 minutes. She sat the last five minutes of the first half with two fouls. Melly Heaton had her second straight game for four 3s.

"We need her to shoot the ball," said Colvin, "but we're all going to have to work on our free throws."

Campbellsville was 11-22 from the line in the first half, but improved in the second to finish 21 of 33.

The Lady Tigers enter conference play Thursday when Shawnee State comes calling at the Powell Athletic Center. Game time for that is 6:00.
