A first-half penalty kick by
Ashley Corum proved to be all Campbellsville University needed offensively to down Shawnee State University, 1-0, in the Mid-South Conference Tournament quarterfinals Saturday.
Corum converted the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the first half.
Both teams battled the rest of the way, as Shawnee State had 15 total shots, six on target, and Campbellsville had 14 shots, seven on target.
Campbellsville nearly had a second scoring opportunity in the second half when
Megan Campbell was on a breakaway but tripped up in the box. No penalty was called and Campbell exited the game shortly after the play, ending her consecutive games with a goal streak at eight games. She scored 13 goals during the streak, taking over the team's lead.
Defensively,
Brandie Hagerman collected all six saves for CU in goal, as she and the Lady Tiger defense helped lead Campbellsville to its record 10th shutout of the season. With the win, Campbellsville ties the school record for wins in a season (12) for the second straight year.
Campbellsville (12-7) will travel to Rio Grande, Ohio this week to meet Lindsey Wilson College in the Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinals at noon.
