Campbellsville University freshman goalkeeper
Brandie Hagerman's record shutouts earned the Lady Tigers their first All-America award.
Hagerman, a native of Hartford, Ky., helped lead CU to a record setting season with 13 wins, nine shutouts and two combined shutouts.
The first-year Lady Tigers, named the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year in November, averaged 5.45 saves per game. She posted a career-high 12 saves in a win over Cumberland University in September and allowed only 16 goals in 18 goals played.
"I knew she was a good goalie, but I didn't really realize how good she
was going to be. In high school they play a lot of just average teams.
She really stepped her level up to the level of college as a freshman a
lot quicker than I thought she would. She can
only improve from here," CU head coach Thom Jones said. "She made some freshman mistakes in the goal,
and that's something we can work on. I think
she has the potential of being an All-American all four years."
The award caps a full year of accolades for Hagerman, who was also named to the NCCAA Mid-East Region Team and was the Mid-South Conference First Team goalkeeper.
Also named to the Mid-East Region Team was
Megan Campbell,
Jessica Ralph and Savannah Stephens. Campbell received the highest regional honor as Mid-East Region Player of the Year.
Campbell led CU with 13 goals off 46 shots on goal. She also had four assists. She did all of her scoring in the final eight games of the regular season.
"If next year
she (Megan) can put that together from the first game to the last she'll break
every honor there is here at Campbellsville. It's a great honor for her
to be named
by the coaches in our region," Jones said.
Also receiving recognition are seniors
Brittany Halcomb and
Jessica Hupp as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
