Georgetown too much for Tigers in last 10 minutes of 80-61 win

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Georgetown outscored Campbellsville 26-9 over the last 10 minutes of the game and squashed the Tigers' upset hopes, 80-61, Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Gray, who scored a game-high 22 points for Georgetown (9-0, 2-0 MSC), seemed to always have an answer whenever CU pulled close. It was Gray's 3 that started GU's run to the finish. He hit a follow shot and another 3 and by that time Georgetown had manufactured a 64-52 working margin.

"The Eddie Gray line is on me," said coach Keith Adkins. "We had to pick our poison and I chose to defend the post and hope they didn't hit enough 3s to hurt us. It didn't work out the way we wanted it."

Campbellsville (7-3, 1-1 MSC) was playing with a depleted roster as Brandon Williams and Monie Hudson were not in uniform for violation of team rules.

But Adkins could not fault the effort of his team.

"If we play like that every night we'll be a contender in this league," he said.

In the first half CU punched a 21-19 lead when Brett Crittenden hit two of his team-high four 3s. And the game was tied at 29-29 when Caleb Harris hit the front end of two free throws with two minutes until the braek. But Georgetown outscored the Tigers 5-4 the rest of the way to led 34-33 at halftime.

"We played our guts out," said Adkins. "I'm proud of them. There was a lot of adversity with our depleted roster and we had guys step up all night."

Three players reached double figures for CU, led by Harris' 19. Shawn Savage chipped in 13 and Crittenden had 12.

To go along with Gray's 22, Maurice Pearson had 16 and Vic Moses 13.

Campbellsville goes on the road to Marietta, Ga. Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup with Life University.
