Emma Napier had three hits (one a homer) and collected four RBI in a
two-game set Saturday as the Campbellsville University softball team
beat Pikeville on the road, 7-0 and 4-1.
Napier, a freshman from Scottsville, Ky., helped lead the Tigers to
their fourth straight win and a 5-1 conference mark, 15-11 overall. They
lead Cumberlands and Rio Grande as both those squads have two losses in
MSC play.
Napier's heroics came in the 7-0 shutout victory in the first game of
the double header. That's when she had a triple and a home run and
knocked in four of the Tigers' seven runs.
Morgan Bullock (2B, 2RBI),
Alex Jane Clemmons (1RBI),
Katie Daniel and
Jordan Cornett all had one
hit in the game.
Allison Horton went the distance, allowing five hits, striking out two and walking two.
It was a five-run third inning that got thing rolling for the Tigers in game one. Napier hit a two-run home run with Cornett aboard. With two out,
Bailey Dillender and
Jennifer England walked and were plated by a long double by Bullock. Clemmons then single for the final run of the inning.
Campbellsville got two more runs in the sixth when, again with two outs, Daniel walked, Cornett singled and Napier tripled in both runners.
In game two, the Tigers had to come from behind. Trailing 1-0 after three, CU scored twice each in the fourth and seventh frames.
England and Cornett each had two hits in the game and Daniel, Bullock and Napier reached base safely once each.
In the fourth, Bullock singled, Clemmons reached on an error and Daniel had a base-hit bunt, scoring Bullock. Cornett's single plated Clemmons.
In the seventh, Cornett and Napier singled and on
Kacie Vincent's sacrifice bunt the runners advanced. Dillender then walked and England's single to right plating the final two runs.
Horton pitched the complete-game win, allowing four hits and fanning six.
Campbellsville will host St. Catharine in a double header on Tuesday with the first game starting at 2:00. The Lady Patriots have a 1-3 MSC record and are 7-11 overall.
