Alex Jane Clemmons knocked in six runs and hammered out four hits as she
and her Tiger softball teammates skunked St. Catharine 8-0, 8-0 in a
Tuesday double-header at Veterans Memorial Park.
The wins run the CU win streak to six and improves the Tigers' record to
17-11, 7-1 MSC.
Allison Horton got plenty of support in the first game with her
teammates booking 11 hits. Horton did not allow a hit in five innings of
work, hitting two batters and walking one.
Campbellsville scored three runs in the second and third frames and two more in the decisive fifth when the eight-run rule was invoked.
In the second inning,
Katie Daniel hit a two-out double that plated Clemmons who was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
Jordan Cornett walked and scored on a
Emma Napier single and Napier herself scored later in the frame when St. Catharine misplayed a ball.
In the third,
Bailey Dillender and
Jennifer England reached home on Clemmons' three-run homer to center.
In the fifth,
Morgan Bullock singled and scored on a two-bagger by Clemmons and Cornett's single scored the game-winning run.
In game two, Campbellsville broke open a scoreless tie in the third with a five spot. Napier had a one-out double and
Kacie Vincent a single. Napier scored on an overthrow that also allowed Vincent to take third. Dillender's slow-roller single to short scored Vincent. After England laced a single, Bullock plated a run with a double and Clemmons knocked in two more runs with a single.
CU added two more runs in the fourth when England's single scored Napier and Vincent.
The decisive eighth run came on a walk-off homer by Dillender.
Horton allowed four hits and her defense got her out a third inning jam with a double play.
The Tigers travel to Rio Grande Friday and Saturday for a four-game matchup with the conference's second place team. The Tigers go out of the conference next Tuesday when they host Midway on in double header, first game at 3:00.
