Campbellsville rebounded from a game one 1-0 shutout to wrap out
13 hits in a 7-1 game to split its Mid-South Conference opener against the University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday.
After Cumberlands took a 1-0 run in the first inning, the Lady Tigers scored all the runs they
would need in the bottom half of the inning. Cassidy Kroeker who gave up two
hits in the first, held the Patriots to just two more hits the rest of the way.
In the second inning, consecutive doubles by Emma Napier and Morgan Bullock set
up RBI singles by Jennifer England and Alex Jane Clemmons. Bullock had
another double in the sixth. CU got a solo run in the fourth when Napier
singled, stole second and scored on a two-bagger by Kacie Vincent. The Lady Tigers
completed their scoring in the fifth. England drove in Bullock, who had walked,
with a two-run home run. Clemmons followed with a solo home run of her own to
right center.
Other hits in the game included a double by Katelyn Daniels, two singles by
Bailey Dillender and an addition single by Clemmons.
England was perfect from the plate with a walk, two singles and her home run.
In game one, Campbellsville could not take advantage of three leadoff
batters on in the first, fourth and seventh innings, and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Cumberlands.
Allison Horton fanned six, three in the first inning, but
was touched for a leadoff home run in the seventh by Brittany Lovelace.
The Lady Tigers could manage but three singles in the game, one
each by Vincent, Dillender and Bullock. Napier, Clemmons and Dillender all received free pases. Campbellsville left six
runners stranded.
In the sixth the Tigers got two on with two outs
and England's fly to left center was about a foot short and hauled
in for an out.
Campbellsville (8-6) will host Indiana University Southeast on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
