Box Score Campbellsville University fans had plenty to cheer about Wednesday night, as the Tigers returned home to Finley Stadium and shut out Berea College, 6-0, in a non-conference game.Â
Casey Clarke and
Jamie Allen did most of the scoring for CU, as Clarke netted the first two Tiger goals and Allen collected his second consecutive hat trick in front of a home crowd.
Clarke didn't waste any time, as he netted the Tigers' first goal in the 9th minute with an assist from
Alex Adams. Three minute later, he narrowly missed goal No. 2 as his shot hit the left post. But it didn't take the London, England native long for another try. In the 23rd minute, Clarke found the back of the net again on an assist from
Pontus Yngve, who had two assists in the game. Clarke lined up for what could have been the Tigers' third goal of the match in the 29th minute, but his penalty kick try for a hat trick was saved by Berea keeper Caleb Stringer.
The Tigers' defense held Berea to four shots and only one on goal through the first half, as Campbellsville played most all of the first 45 minutes on the Berea side of the pitch. The offensive effort resulted in a third goal with 11 minutes remaining in the half.
Ramiro Sanchez had his shot blocked, but Brian Walton sent the rebound, bicycle-style, to Allen on the left side. Allen powered it bast Stringer for his first goal of the night to keep his scoring streak alive at four games.
Allen, a freshman from Leicester, England, opened the second half with back-to-back goals the 48th and 49th minutes to record the hat trick and bring his season goal total to nine.
John Kennedy of Scotland assisted Allen's second goal, while Yngve assisted the third.Â
Sanchez, a Columbia native, closed out the scoring in the 62nd minute on a goal assisted by
Chris Collins-Reed. He celebrated with the crowd of Latin American students sitting behind the goal.
CU had three goalkeepers combine for the shutout. Senior
James Clements made his first appearance at home this season and recorded one save in 57 minutes of work, while
Kyle Thomas had the other CU save with 26 minutes of work.
Aaron Steele made his first appearance of the season in goal, playing the final seven minutes without facing a shot.
CU cleared its bench in the win, as the Tigers out shot Berea 32 to 6. Stringer had eight saves for the Mountaineers.
