CU hoops invades Cumberlands today

Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The battle for first-place in the Mid-South Conference begins today for women's basketball, as the two-time defending MSC regular season champion Campbellsville University Lady Tigers travel to Williamsburg, Ky., to take on the two-time defending MSC Tournament champion University of the Cumberlands Patriots. Tip off for the NAIA Top 25 showdown is 2 p.m. ET, followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. ET.

No. 3 Campbellsville hits the court for the first time in a week after its games at Lindsey Wilson were postponed Thursday due to weather. No. 20 Cumberlands, however, is coming off a Thursday night win over St. Catharine College, 70-47. The Lady Tigers swept Cumberlands in the regular season last year, winning in overtime, 68-65, in a Jan. 28 meeting in Williamsburg. Cumberlands won a close battle in the MSC Tournament final, 73-68.

The Tiger men return from a five-day layoff after upsetting Life University, 75-74, in overtime Monday, Jan. 17. CU will battle for fourth-place in the current MSC standings against a Cumeberlands team that knocked off No. 10 St. Catharine on Thursday, 68-59. Both the Tigers and Patriots have three losses in MSC action, tied with Pikeville College for fourth. Lindsey Wilson and St. Catharine are tied for second-place with two losses and Georgetown College leads the MSC at 7-1. this season. Campbellsville swept the Patriots last season, winning 65-60 at Cumberlands and survived a double-overtime battle, 83-80, win at home to clinch its first MSC regular season title.
