Clemens named MSC Wrestler of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University's David Clemens is the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly conference award is Clemens' first of the season and of his career

Clemens captured the 165-pound title at the Missouri Valley College Invitational on Saturday winning three matches en route to the title.

The Dayton, Ohio, senior, advanced into the semifinals of his weight class following a medical forfeit from Calumet College of Saint Joseph's (Ind.) John Tyler. Clemens -- the tournament's No. 2-seed at 165 pounds -- advanced into the finals with a 5-4 decision over McKendree (Ill.) University's Isaiah Gonzalez.

Clemens upset Missouri Valley's Alex McKinney -- the 165-pound top-seed -- with a pin at the 4:03 mark. McKinney entered the match as the No. 4-ranked individual at 165 pounds in the NAIA.

With Clemens' wins, the Tigers finished third overall at the 10-team event.

Campbellsville returns to action at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 29 as the Tigers host No. 1-ranked Notre Dame (Ohio) College at Gosser Gym.

The next wrestling player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Jan. 31.
