GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Campbellsville had a 21-game conference win streak
snapped on Thursday at Shawnee State, but the Lady Tigers started a new one
on Saturday as the they whipped up on Georgetown, 81-63.
Whitney Ballinger scored 14 of the first 20 points to stake the Lady
Tigers to a 20-12 lead at the seven-minute mark of the opening half.
Ballinger had a double-double at intermission as she also had 10 boards.
"We came out and played with a little more intensity and on offense we did a really good job," said coach
Ginger Colvin.
Georgetown (7-15, 3-8) crawled back into the game in the second half and erased the 20-point lead to trail by only 13 (65-52) with five minutes to go. GC eventually got to within 12 at 75-63, but no closer.
"We played a lot of kids and they all played well," said Colvin. "We have a make-up game at Lindsey on Monday and we don't have a lot of turn-around time. It was good to be able to rest some folks."
Campbellsville (16-3, 9-1) got some nice play off the bench.
Alexia Williams had six points, off two 3s, in the first half and ended the game with nine.
Katie Allen had her most productive game as a Lady Tiger with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
"Alexia is turning into a huge spark for our team," said Colvin. "She hasn't been shooting the ball the way she can, but tonight she did. She's getting the ball to Whitney (Ballinger) as good as anyone on the team."
Ballinger led three Lady Tigers into double figures, ending with 27 points.
Mackenzie Lee and
Katie Allen both had 10 points. All but three Lady Tigers made the scoring column. The teams were even in rebounding with 50 each.
Melly Heaton sat out her second straight game with a sprained ankle, but is expected to see some action Monday, according to Colvin.
The Lady Tigers will be at Lindsey Wilson on Monday for a makeup game. Game time is 7 p.m.
