Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The southwestern side of Finley Stadiums' soccer pitch was Meagan Campbell's Ville Friday afternoon as the senior forward scored a hat-trick to break the Lady Tiger soccer career goals record. Her three goals all came in the first half and proved to be the difference in Campbellsville University's 6-3 victory over West Virginia University's Institute of Technology.
Campbell, a native of Central City, Ky., now has 34 career goals, passing Laura Swencki, who scored 32 goals in 59 games from 2007 to 2009.
CU first got on the board in the fifth minute as Campbell assisted a Cassie Yannelli goal. CU's new scoring queen netted her record-tying goal on a rebound from a blocked penalty kick in the seventh minute. She went on to break the record with goals in the 14th and 25th minutes.
The performance was her fourth multiple goal game of the season and eighth of her career. Her previous hat-tricks came in 2010 against Pikeville College and Shawnee State University.
West Virginia Tech scattered its three goals throughout the game Friday. Hannah Jaskot scored the first goal in a one-on-one with CU keeper Brandie Hagerman in the 24th minute and netted the Golden Bears' third goal with seven seconds remaining in a scramble in front of the net. Creshana Jones had the second goal in the first minute of the second half.
Before halftime, Kaitlin Bryan scored a goal for CU. She later assisted Jessica Ralph's ninth goal of the season in the 79th minute.
Hagerman had six saves in the win, while Sarah Akers had one save in five minutes of relief time in the goal. Tech goalkeeper Bridget Leach had five saves.
Campbell helped achieve her new record by scoring 23 of her goals in the Lady Tigers' last 24 games. She tied Swencki for the single-season goals record with 13 goals last season and has 10 goals through 12 games this year. She scored only 11 goals in her first two years combined.
CU (8-4) will travel to Bethel University on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a 2 p.m. ET game.
