Box Score WISE, Va. - Shawn Savage became the second CU basketball player in a two-hour span to reach the 1,000-point milestone with two early 3s as the Tigers improved to 15-11, 8-7 with a 70-58 win at Virginia Wise. Melly Heaton did the same in the women's game.

"He got it early and got it out of the way," said Tiger mentor, Keith Adkins. "In the NAIA anymore you don't have a lot of four-year guys and we're really going to miss him. He's had a really good career for us."



Campbellsville built its first-half lead while Wise was shooting 3-14 from the field. Caleb Harris tallied 11 first-half points to aid in the 39-28 intermission advantage.

But with Savage and JaVaughn Espritt in foul trouble, Adkins had to utilize some players who hadn't been logging significant minutes.

"We didn't come out with the win-loss record we wanted on this road trip," said Adkins, "but we've had two really good efforts. I'm proud of the guys."

CU built an 11-point half-time lead into a 20-point cushion early in the second half after Reggie Smith canned two 3s and leading scorer, Caleb Harris (19 points), hit a bucket. But Wise closed to within 13 with eight minutes to go only to see the Tigers expand their lead to 21 (68-47) with three minutes to play."

The Tigers head back to Campbellsville for a four-game home stand, starting Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) against non-conference foe King College. They end their  regular season with match-ups against: St. Catharine (8 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 19; Lindsey Wilson (8 p.m.), Thursday, Feb. 24; and University of the Cumberlands (4 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 26.

"We still have two of our main goals (a 20-win season and an NAIA tournament berth) in our sights," said Adkins. "Our goals are firmly reachable."
