Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Despite shooting 20 percent in the first half, Campbellsville University challenged University of the Cumberlands to the wire in a 58-56 Senior Day loss Saturday in Powell Athletic Center.
Campbellsville fell behind 7-0 to start the game and trailed 18-5 before cutting the deficit to 24-17 at the half. While the Patriots shot 58 percent in the first half, The Tigers allowed only one offensive rebound and forced 12 turnovers.

"With those stats I would have thought we would be in better shape than we were," CU head coach Keith Adkins said. "We got off to a slow start in the first half and really never got into a rhythm offensively."
After the Patriots built the lead back to double figures, 32-22, early in the second half, but the Tigers went on a 10-2 run to pull within a basket, 34-32, on a Shawn Savage 3-pointer with 11 minutes to play. The rest of the way, each time Cumberlands tried to stretch its lead, the Tigers closed the gap. Brett Crittenden cut the difference to a point, 42-41, on a 3-pointer. Reggie Smith cut the game back within two, 58-56, with 20 seconds to play. Crittenden missed a three in the corner at the buzzer, as Cumberlands held on for the win.
Caleb Harris led all scorers with 25 points.
Â
"In the second half, we played much better on the offensive end. Defensively, we played well enough to win, but, we never got over the hump. As it has happened lately, we just didn't get the breaks we needed to pull it out," Adkins said.
Prior to the game, Campbellsville honored its seniors: Savage, Espritt, Harris, Crittenden and Adrian Whelan. Redshirt-junior Sasha Mirosavljev was also honored since he will graduate in May, as well as long-time manager Mark Hayden.
Â
"I am very proud of this senior class. Each one has had a profound impact on this program. They will be greatly missed when it's all said and done. But, hopefully, they have a lot of basketball left in them," Adkins said.
Campbellsville (16-14, 9-9 MSC) finishes the season as the No. 6 seed in the Mid-South and will meet Pikeville College in the MSC Tournament quarterfinals Friday, March 4 at 2 p.m. ET in Frankfort, Ky.
