Campbellsville took an early 14-0 lead with a 25-yard, finger-tip catch and dash by Stan Warrenhuffman, followed by a left-handed grab in the end zone by true freshman Bobby Leonard from 5 yards out. Cumberland got on the board three minutes before halftime on a 33-yard run by Broc Loveless, as Campbellsville controlled a 14-7 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs evened the score four minutes into the second half with a 24-yard interception return by Michael Shannon. Cumberland took its only lead of the game with three minutes left in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Broc Loveless to James McClain.

While Campbellsville was unable to immediately respond, punter Carl Ojala helped pin the Bulldogs deep inside their own territory. Once Cumberland stalled out, Tiger freshman Darius Skinner returned a short punt 26 yards to the Bulldog 21 to start the fourth quarter.

Trailing 21-14, C'ville quarterback Nathan Cooper quickly went to work, finding Warrenhuffman on a 40-yard touchdown strike on third-and-11. It was the first of two second-half scores for the 6-foot-3 senior from Cincinnati. The later came with 8:34 left to play, breaking the single-game TD reception record and the tie.

The record was stuck on two touchdown receptions for years, with two touchdown catches coming in a game by the same player 30 times. Warrenhuffman's three TDs gives him four multiple-touchdown games, as he finished the night with 146 yards on nine catches.

Cumberland answered on the ensuing drive with a 6-yard run by McClain. That's when the biggest kick block of the night occurred. Campbellsville true freshman Leon Melvin blocked the potential game-tying extra point with 6:57 to play. After the ball ricocheted nearly 20 yards off his chest, redshirt-freshman Blake Young scooped it up and scampered 57 yards for the 2-point conversion, points that proved to be insurance for the Tigers. Campbellsville went on to control the ball for most of the remainder of the game to run out the clock.

The kick block was Melvin's second of the game, as he blocked a field goal early in the third quarter. So far this season, he has single-handedly stopped 16 potential points with defensive plays, beginning with two interceptions in the end zone in his collegiate debut last week. It was also the third block of the game, as Jeffrey Demary blocked a field goal on the Bulldogs' first drive of the game.

Defensively, Campbellsville collected 94 tackles and allowed 361 total yards of offense. The biggest defensive play of the game though may have been the Bulldogs' second possession of the second quarter. Trailing 14-0 at the time, Cumberland moved the ball 58 yards in five minutes to set up third-and-goal at the Tigers' 1 yard line. Senior linebacker Dwight Houston teamed up with Henri Baynham-Baker and Winston Harbison, in respective order, to stuff the Bulldogs on the goal line on back-to-back runs and force a turnover on downs.

Houston and Young went on to finish the night with nine tackles, while Demary led the defense with 12 stops.

Cumberland's back-up quarterback, Loveless, led all players in all-purpose yards with 164 yards by air and 32 on the ground. Cooper passed for more than 200 yards for the second straight week, hitting 249 yards on 22-of-44 passing. He reached the 3,000 yards passing milestone in the final seconds of the game.

Campbellsville (2-0) travels to Whitewater, Wisc., next Saturday, Sept. 17 for a 1 p.m. ET game against the two-time defending NCAA Division III national champions, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
