Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. --
Cassie Yannelli racked up the best offensive game of her career Tuesday, scoring her first career hat-trick and two assists for Campbellsville University in a 6-0 shutout of Midway College at Finley Stadium.
The defensive hold was the third consecutive shutout of the season for the Lady Tigers.
Yannelli scored an unassisted goal in the 27
th minute to settle a sloppy first half for Campbellsville. She'd go on to assist two other goals in the next four minutes before scoring her second goal before the half. It was the second straight 4-0 first half lead for the Lady Tigers.
Kaitlin Bryan scored her first collegiate goal in the 29
th minute and
Rebekah Carl added the Lady Tigers' third goal in the 32
nd minute. Yannelli scored her second goal in the 35
th minute on a ball played right through the defense by
Bailey McDonough.
As the first half began to close, the rain clouds opened, dumping a heavy rain. The Lady Tigers struggled to settle a shot in the first 20-plus minutes of the second half similar to the first period. In the 78
th minute, Yannelli capped her hat-trick with a goal off Amanda Barch's first assist for CU.
After Yannelli took her curtain call,
Toria Alsip took her place on corner kicks, placing a perfect corner in front of the goal for freshman
Malia Botelho-Read. The Hawaii native fired a deflected shot into the goal for her first career goal.
Yannelli led Campbellsville with six shots, five on goal.
Megan Campbell also had six shots, but placed only one on target. Alsip had five shots.
Campbell, Yannelli and
Jessica Ralph are now tied for the team lead in goals scored with five each.
Brandie Hagerman played 85 minutes in goal and had two saves, while
Sarah Akers had one save in the final five minutes to combine for the save.
Campbellsville (5-2) will open its Mid-South Conference season Saturday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. ET when Shawnee State University comes to Finley Stadium.
