Tigers beat Brescia in season opener, 61-46

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Game one is in the books for the 2012-2013 Campbellsville University men's basketball season – a 61-46 victory on the road at Brescia University.

 

 

Brescia struck first with a 3, but the Tigers posted a seven-point run to take their first lead of the game. The Bearcats made the game close once again, but a Justin Ennis 3 helped keep the Tigers in front en route to a 22-14 halftime lead.

Seven quickly became 15, as Jordan Myers hit a jumper just inside the 3-point arc less than four minutes into the second half. Myers' shot helped spark a 7-2 run for the Tiger's largest lead of the night, 41-23. Brescia managed to hold the Tigers' lead under 20 points during the second half, maintaining the difference around a 13-point margin.

Myers and Ennis led the Tigers with 12 points each, while Malik Thomas and Filip Stanic each had nine. Stanic led CU with two 3's on the night, his first of his Tigers' career. Brandon Britt also collected his first 3-point basket of his collegiate career Monday.

Addison Smith had eight points in his first official start as a Tiger, while Taylor had nd seven points. The Tigers shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line.

Myron Christian and Brett Jackson each scored 13 to lead Brescia.

Campbellsville (1-0) will return to action Monday, Nov. 12 in its home opener against Indiana University Northwest. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST in Powell Athletic Center.
