Lady Tiger soccer loses to No. 10 Martin Methodist

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The Campbellsville Lady Tiger soccer team couldn't handle the offensive pressure of No. 10 Martin Methodist College on Tuesday night. Redhawk forward Mor Efraim dominated the scoring with the only goals, helping defeat CU in a shutout, 2-0.

Head coach Thom Jones was upset at the loss, but acknowledges positive aspects of the performance.

"We made two major mistakes tonight and this team capitalized on it," said Jones. "When you play the number 10 team in the nation, you can't make mistakes, and we did. But the best part is we never stopped fighting. The girls kept working hard and played the whole 90 minutes. That is what will help us come tournament time."

It was a neck-to-neck battle the first half of the game, as the ball continuously bounced between teams. Martin fired six shots, but none found the back of the net, thanks to the latest Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week, Brandie Hagerman. The junior keeper had five saves, three of which were attempts from Efraim. Campbellsville couldn't manage one shot in the first 45 minutes.

Efraim's efforts finally overpowered CU in the second half, as the Israel native managed to get two shots passed Hagerman, in the 52nd and 76th minutes. Her second shot was assisted by senior midfielder and recent TranSouth Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Daniel Sofer. Hagerman finished with seven saves in the game.

The only Campbellsville shot came from junior forward, Jessica Ralph, but missed high.

The Lady Tigers will return to the action Friday, Sept. 14 at Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 4 p.m. EDT. To follow the Lady Tigers, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com
