CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Following a resilient season that culminated in a thrilling conference championship, Campbellsville University Athletics has officially removed the interim tag, promoting
Trey Henderson to permanent Head Coach of the women's soccer program.
Henderson guided the Tigers through the 2025 season to an 11-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in Mid-South Conference play, ultimately engineering a remarkable postseason run. Campbellsville captured the tournament crown for the first time since 2022 by upsetting the University of the Cumberlands, the eventual NAIA National Runner-Up.
Under Henderson's direction in the championship match, the Tigers withstood a heavy offensive barrage from the Patriots before claiming a dramatic 2-1 sudden-death overtime victory, sealed by a golden goal from
Fiona Jolly in the 93rd minute.
The MSC title secured Campbellsville an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament and propelled the Tigers back into the national conversation, earning them votes in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The program's postseason journey concluded in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Xavier University of Louisiana in the NAIA Tournament First Round in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Henderson's elevation to the permanent role cements a foundation he has been instrumental in building since his arrival. Prior to taking the interim helm, Henderson served as an assistant coach for the Tigers during a historic 2024 campaign. He was named the MSC Assistant Coach of the Year after helping guide Campbellsville to a program-best 18-2-1 record and a deep postseason push to the NAIA Championship site in Pensacola, Fla.
A proven winner with extensive developmental experience, Henderson came to Campbellsville after a successful tenure assisting renowned head coach Dr. Mike Giuliano at Georgia Gwinnett from 2019 to 2024. During his time with the Grizzlies, he helped secure two Continental Conference Championships, two Association of Independent Institutions Championships, and five NAIA National Tournament appearances while also serving as the Women's Soccer GPS Director.
Henderson boasts a deep resume in elite youth development, having spent over a decade as the Girls and Boys ECNL Head Coach and Age-Group Coordinator for Atlanta Fire United. He also served as an Olympic Development Program (ODP) Staff Coach in Atlanta, where he identified and developed top-tier talent for the U.S. National Soccer Teams. He currently holds both a USSF "C" Coaching License and a National Youth License.
A native of Chamblee, Ga., Henderson was a 2008 AAA State Champion at Chamblee Charter High School. He went on to play four collegiate seasons at Reinhardt University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in special education and later earned an initial certification from Georgia State University.
With his interim status lifted, Henderson now looks to the offseason to build upon a culture of championship expectations and sustained national competitiveness for Campbellsville Women's Soccer.
