Tigers dominate in 10-1 win at KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. — Shots appeared to come easy for the Tigers Monday as Campbellsville University fired 58 times, including 35 on target, in a 10-1 win at Kentucky Christian University. The win gives the Tigers a three-game win streak to start the season

 



The game was the first of the season for the Knights (0-1) on their new turf field, and the Tigers made themselves fell at home on synthetic turf. After more than 25 shots in the first half, CU took a 2-0 lead into halftime with goals by Curtis Myers in the 41st minute and Gustav Carlsson in the 42nd minute.

The goals kept coming in the second half with six Tigers scoring in the game. Carlsson went onto score two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half for his second consecutive hat trick. Keegan Prince had two goals in the 73rd and 79th minutes. The other goal scorers were Pontus Yngve, Jean-Luc Heidrich, Andrew Nugent and Cody Alley capped of the night by scoring with eight seconds left to play. It was the first goal of the season for Heidrich and first of the career for Nugent and Alley.

"We played pretty well today. Compliments to KCU for their first rate facilities, and the hard work they put in the entire game. I'm glad we were able to score some goals, but we have some serious challenges ahead in the next couple weeks," said Adam Preston, CU head coach."

Trevor Jarvis and Nathan Sahota each had two assists in the game for the Tigers.

Defensively, CU allowed only one shot in the entire match, a goal by Spenser Lindsey, assisted by Derreck Richardson, in the 85th minute. Freshman goalkeeper Max Malachiyev led CU in goal with more than 77 scoreless minutes. Kyle Thomas played the last 12 minutes in goal for the Tigers.

Koty Buck and Levi Keiser each had 11 saves for KCU after each playing a half in goal.

Campbellsville (3-0) will return home Wednesday to host Berea College at 8 p.m. on Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium.
